About HLTAID011

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is Australia's standard workplace first aid qualification. It's part of the HLT Health Training Package and is nationally recognised across all states and territories.

The course is delivered face-to-face in a single day. Practical skills are assessed in person by a qualified trainer, and you'll receive a Statement of Attainment on the same day or within a few business days.

HLTAID011 includes HLTAID009 (CPR). You don't need to do them separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does HLTAID011 take to complete?

HLTAID011 takes approximately 8 hours of face-to-face training — typically one full day. Some providers include 1–2 hours of optional online pre-reading to complete before you arrive. The in-person session covers practical skills and a short written assessment.

How long is an HLTAID011 certificate valid?

Your HLTAID011 certificate is valid for 3 years. The CPR component embedded in HLTAID011 is recommended to be refreshed annually — most providers offer a short CPR update session (HLTAID009) for this purpose.

What's the difference between HLTAID011 and HLTAID009?

HLTAID009 (Provide CPR) covers CPR and AED use only — it takes about 3.5 hours. HLTAID011 (Provide First Aid) includes everything in HLTAID009 plus treatment of bleeding, burns, fractures, shock, anaphylaxis, asthma, and other medical emergencies. Most workplaces require HLTAID011, not just CPR.

Is first aid certification required by law in NSW?

In NSW, the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 requires employers to provide access to first aid equipment and trained first aiders. Safe Work Australia recommends at least one trained first aider per 25 workers in low-risk environments, and one per 10 workers in high-risk environments such as construction. Specific industries (childcare, aged care) have their own mandatory requirements.

Can I do HLTAID011 entirely online?

No. HLTAID011 requires face-to-face practical assessment — you cannot complete the full qualification online. This is a national standard set by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). Some providers include an optional online theory component before the in-person day, but attendance at the in-person session is mandatory.

How much does HLTAID011 cost in NSW?

Prices in NSW typically range from $95 to $130 per person for a full HLTAID011 course. Group and corporate bookings often attract a lower per-person rate. Use NextCert to compare providers in your area and get a free quote.
